What We Talked About — and Why It Matters
The conversation centered on something I’ve been thinking about and practicing for over forty years: what does it actually mean to treat cancer?
The dominant cultural metaphor is war — we “fight” tumors, we “battle” disease, we “attack” cancer cells. I understand why this language arose. It conveys urgency, seriousness, and determination. But I’ve come to see how this framing also narrows our vision in ways that can ultimately limit healing. When we focus exclusively on destroying the tumor, we risk losing sight of the person.
Brendon’s closing words said it well: “Thanks for the dynamic and scientifically rich look at whole-system cancer treatment. I look forward to you joining us again in this galloping year of the horse.”
